Computing Preferred Labellings by Exploiting SCCs and Most Sceptically Rejected Arguments

چکیده
The computation of preferred labellings of an abstract argumentation framework (or briefly, AF) is generally intractable. The existing decomposition-based approach by exploiting strongly connected components (SCCs) of a general AF is promising to cope with this problem. However, the efficiency of this approach is highly limited by the maximal SCC of an AF. This paper presents a further solution by exploiting the most sceptically rejected arguments of an AF. Given an AF, its grounded labelling is first generated. Then, the attacks between the undecided arguments and the rejected arguments are removed. It turns out that the modified AF has the same preferred labellings as the original AF, but the maximal SCC in it could be much smaller than that of the original AF. Empirical results show that this new method dramatically reduce the computation time for some sparse AFs (when the ratio of the number of edges to the number of nodes of an AF is between 1:1 and 1.8:1).

متن کاملA labelling approach for ideal and stage semantics
In this document, we describe the concepts of ideal semantics and stage semantics for abstract argumentation in terms of argument labellings. The difference between the traditional extensions approach and the labelling approach is that where the former only identifies the sets of accepted arguments, the latter also identifies the rejected arguments as well as the arguments that are neither acce...
متن کاملA SCC Recursive Meta-Algorithm for Computing Preferred Labellings in Abstract Argumentation
This paper presents a meta-algorithm for the computation of preferred labellings, based on the general recursive schema for argumentation semantics called SCC-Recursiveness. The idea is to recursively decompose a framework so as to compute semantics labellings on restricted sub-frameworks, in order to reduce the computational effort. The meta-algorithm can be instantiated with a specific “base ...

متن کاملOn Learning Attacks in Probabilistic Abstract Argumentation
Probabilistic argumentation combines the quantitative uncertainty accounted by probability theory with the qualitative uncertainty captured by argumentation. In this paper, we investigate the problem of learning the structure of an argumentative graph to account for (a distribution of) labellings of a set of arguments. We consider a general abstract framework, where the structure of arguments i...
